Let me guess... do you want to study veterinary medicine and you still don't know which university to choose? If this is your case, stay here reading because I am sure this will interest you.

What is the AVMA?

Let's start by knowing what the AVMA is and why I consider it essential that you study this degree at a university that has this accreditation. The AVMA is the acronym in English for the American Veterinary Medical Association and to cut a long story short, this is the American association that represents about 100,000 veterinarians in the United States and is in charge of regulating, standardizing and accrediting veterinary universities throughout the country. the world (not just in the United States).

Therefore, if you are interested in studying veterinary medicine and want to practice this profession in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, among others, my recommendation is that you do so at a university accredited by the AVMA. This accreditation will allow you to directly take the NAVLE (revalidation or license exam) without the need to go through the tedious ECFVG process, which we can comment on another time. If you want to review all the universities accredited by the AVMA, click on the following link https://www.avma.org/education/center-for-veterinary-accreditation/accredited-veterinary-colleges.

Does UNAM really have this accreditation?

UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico) is known as the highest educational institution in Latin America, not only for its high educational standards but also for its sociocultural standards. So much so that in 2007, its main campus known as a university city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

This university has an academic offer of 132 careers in different modalities and within all of these careers we find the one that interests us, Veterinary Medicine. This career is run by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics (FMVZ), which received full accreditation from the AVMA in 2011 for its high level of education, teaching, research, infrastructure, training of its students, etc.

In 2018 it was reaccredited, since this accreditation board (AVMA), every 7 years, reevaluates universities so that they continue to meet the requested standards. This accreditation makes UNAM's FMVZ the only Latin American university accredited by the AVMA and opens the way for more and more Spanish speakers to opt for quality education and, why not, migrate to other countries to practice their profession. with competitive salaries and without the need to undergo other evaluations that delay and make this process expensive.

Therefore, to the initial question of whether UNAM is accredited by the AVMA, the answer is...
